3. Client-Server Connectivity Issues
3.1 Connectivity Issues related to Windows Firewall.
Firewall service

Scenarios where the issue occurs:-

The Scenarios where this issue can occur are as follows:

  1. Windows system files have been corruption due to Viruses.
  2. During OS installation few files were skipped.
How to Identify the issue:-

Steps that help us to identify the issue are as follows:

  1. Connectivity between client and server shows disconnected.
  2. When trying to open the firewall, it gives the following messages:
    1. Windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) service?”  If clicked yes, it pops with another Error message: “Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display windows firewall settings” and will not provide access to windows firewall.
    2. When opened the “Windows Services Console”, it shows that “Windows Management Instrumentation” is missing.
      1. This happens because the Operating system is not installed properly, e.g.: During installing of operating system, the administrator might have skipped some system32 file which may be damaged in the Operating system disk, causing the winmgmt.exe, winmgmtr.dll & wmi.mfl” is missing.
      2. This can also happen if the winmgmt.exe, winmgmtr.dll & wmi.mfl” are damaged due to virus and any third party applications.
    3. Starting the firewall service will give the following error message: “Could not start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) service on local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service or group failed to start”.
Solution Provided:-

Steps to resolve the issue are as follows:

  1. Check if the Client Server connectivity is established through the ping command.
  2. Go to the following path “C:/Program Files/Ideacts/Clinck Cyber Café Manager/Logs and then check the file UDP Send to Client and UDP Received from Client for the following info:
    1. In UDP Send to Client file check if the “Server’s IP address and the Café Code is mentioned”
    2. In UDP Received from Client file check if “Clients IP Address, Terminal Name, Café Code is mentioned”
  3. The above step will help us to check for the Server Client connectivity.
  4. Close the Café Manager Console.
  5. Now the next step will be to check for the Firewall Settings.
  6. Go to Start à Control panel à windows Firewall àIf it gives the following error message “Windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) service?” then it shows that we have an issue with Firewall service.
  7. Now open the services.msc window by clicking on Start à Run à type Services.msc and press Enter which will open the Services window.
  8. Now search for Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing Service and check if it is started. If not then start the service.
  9. This should resolve the issue.
    1. If starting the service generates an error message “Could not start the windows firewall/internet connection sharing (ICS) service on local computer. Error 1075: The dependency service or group failed to start” then there is a possibility of a dependent Service is not getting started.
  10. Dependencies services are as follows:
    1.  Windows Management Instrumentation
    2. Network Connection
  1. If the issue is with the Windows Management Instrumentation then try starting the service else follow the steps given below:
    1. Copy the winmgmt.exe, winmgmtr.dll & wmi.mfl which are located in the “C:\Windows\System32\Wbem” folder from any PC with same operating system (and its service pack) and paste it in “C:\Windows\System32\Wbem” folder of the system where the service is missing.
    2. Now, go to start->Run->type CMD and press enter. Here we need to execute the following commands one after another:
      1. Winmgmt/kill (To kill any windows management based application that is running)
      2. Winmgmt/clearadap (To clear the windows management adapter settings)
      3. Winmgmt/unregserver(To un-register the windows management components)
      4. Winmgmt/regserver (To register the windows management components)
    3. Now go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services.
    4. Here, find the windows management instrumentation service and right click start.
    5. After starting windows management instrumentation service, start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing service.
    6. This should help us resolve the Client Server Connectivity issue.

Note: For such cases where the issue is recent occurred, try restoring the windows to previous restore point this can resolve the problem.
